Corporate Style Guide Situation: You have been hired to produce your company''s first Corporate Style Guide. This Style Guide will be distributed to all current and new employees, as well as advertising and PR agencies that the company uses. The style guide is a document that presents the company''s standards for all their printed and electronic communication. For this assignment, your task is to create the proposed step by step strategy for the completion of this document Important Note: you will not need to create the actual Style Guide- you are simply putting together the proposed plan for producing the guide. Your paper should include the following: 1. Information gathering strategies: How will you gather the information needed to produce this kind of document? 2. A list of the challenges or barriers to producing this type of document and a proposed strategy for overcoming these challenges. 3. Describe your method for choosing standards. How will you narrow them down? How do you decide what to keep? Remove? etc. 4. List of resources: List and describe resources (persons, places and things) that will be needed for the completion of this document. If appropriate and available discuss potential costs in the product. 5. List/descriptions of all materials that will be included in the document (see below for further examples). 6. A production schedule for the document with an explanation of responsible parties and their assignment tasks. 7. A proposed roll-out strategy for the document. Who will review it before it hits the press? Once printed, who will receive the copies first? Second? etc. Standards to be addressed in the Style Guide include design and layout of each piece, approved standards of logo usage, standards for legal disclaimer, preferred writing tone, and overall management of the company''s branded communication pieces. The following is a list of some of the components that are commonly included in Style Guides and Writing Manuals. You may decide to include others: - Internal and external memos - E-mail standards - Fax cover sheets - Internal and external instructional materials - New employee forms - Employee applications - Standard "off the shelf" advertising materials (brochures, classified ads, etc.) - Industry specific forms or documents - Standards for logo usage - Legal disclaimers usage The paper must be a minimum of 8 content pages in length and written in APA format. APA format essentials include the following: - A title page - References list - 1" margins on all sides, left alignment w/ page numbers - 12 pt. Times Roman or Courier font - Double spacing Note: Title page, attachments, appendices, reference, bibliography pages are not included in the content page requirement.
