Abstract : This dissertation examines the implications of the employment equality (age ) regulations 2006 with in the following areas: objective justification, default 65 retirement age, the national minimum wages , retirement policy, recruitment and training , and finally redundancy policy. Within the scope of these areas it seeks to identify the extend to which the regulations have been successful in implementing the Directive. It will also look at the effect for employers and will attempt to draw some conclusion about how effective the regulation will be in removing age discrimination . Research aims This aims to investigate several aspects relating to legislation surrounding age discrimination. The paper will investigate three general issues with regards to the Employment Equality Age Regulation 2006. In summary this essay addresses three questions. These are: do the Regulation fulfil the Directive ; what will be the effect on bussiness and individuals; and thirdly , in light of the investigation of the previous questions how effective will they be in removing age discrimination in employment? The paper does not aim to come to a definite conclusion on these issues; it will be seen that it is not possible to predict this because much rests on the decisions of both the ECJ and the national courts. Rather the sketch seeks to bring together , evaluate and expand on current literature and views on these issues and formulate likely outcomes and possible implications of the Regulations.
