The emphasis of the paper should be: I learned through observation (professional experience) that will qualify me to become an outstanding Physician Assistant (masters degree), without coming across as & quot;cocky & quot;. Thesis should unfold naturally instead of being stated in the first sentences of the intro paragraph. Paper should be organized by topic and I should extrapolate insights as they develop. It should establish credibility by tactfully stating who I am and where I come from, only with a sophisticated twist. Prof. Experience: Orthodontic Treatment Coordinator: Managed dental clinics, trained dental assistants, p erformed Orthodontic braces adjustments and other clinical procedures on patients. Informed Patients about doctor diagnosis, treatment modalities, and oral/braces care. Dental Assistant: assisted Dentist in surgeries, coordinated health-fair events and other community service programs. Twist: Working in dentistry, I was exposed to many patients who had bigger problems than cavities and/ or crooked teeth. For example, cancer patients, diabetics, high-blood-pressure, blind, attention deficit disorder, etc. So, Physician Asst. is a better career for my passion. I believe that God has given me with a great ability to help people solve with the health problems, a humanitarian. A. The essay must briefly mention my experience and how it can be applied in the field of medicine. Strong points: Having coordinated orthodontic cases (evidence of efficient multi-tasking) will enable me to efficiently manage the diagnosis and treatment of patients in the medical clinic. Great bedside manners, patient communication, manual skills etc. Performing orthodontic and dental care is similar to medicine in that while treating the patient, one has to observe and make an assessment of the person. For example, their face, improving smile, the gums, the teeth, the tongue, allergies to meds, anesthetics etc. However, medicine is way more involved than dentistry and that challenge is highly motivational to me. For example, of a patient comes to the office and inquires about teeth whitening, but they have high blood pressure, they are 70 lbs. overweight, high cholesterol, and diabetics. As a dentist, I couldn''t do much for them except the procedure hey desire. Whereas as a physician assistant, I would be given the opportunity to better help them with the bigger health concerns of the person. B. Mention that I have an ability to empathize with people. Very important: I speak Spanish (bi-lingual), which is a huge thing in Texas. There is a shortage of medical providers such as physician assistants, doctors, nurses, etc. that speak Spanish. My biggest passion is to help the underserved. For example, as a treatment coordinator I worked in South Worth Fort where I interacted with patients of low socio-economic status. Serving them helped me tremendously to identify my call. I am very passionate to become a Physician Assistant in order to help them. (Medical Schools are very big on recruiting students that prefer to work in family practice to serve the under-served instead of specializing in something only to become wealthy). C. My teaching expertise. I taught clinical seminars (15 times) about a nationally advertised Braces technology. Dentists and orthodontists from all over came to hear the seminar. I was not the author of the seminar, the orthodontist that mentored me was, but I was in charge of lecturing and training. In fact, I personally designed the seminar in power point. This was a great achievement for me because the orthodontist had previously taught the piece using microfiche slides, and I put it all in digital form and designed animations to best explain the mechanics of the system. I don’t want to be a dentist, but my expertise must be turned to strong points in my favor to become a physician assistant. Also, I am the kind of person that loves to read, especially scientific journals. When the orthodontist mentored me, I read numerous scientific articles on orthodontics to better improve the patient treatments. We stayed up to date with the latest treatment modalities in the field for the benefit of the patients. In the same way, when one works in medicine it''s important to stay up to date with the latest treatments and drugs. Drugs are always being updated. The essay must reveal that my interest in becoming a physician Assistant is because of my passion to help people on a general level. Not just their teeth, but also their whole bodies. . I would also like to travel regularly to under-served countries such as Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, etc. to do volunteer medical service. I understand that this is a lot of information and I wish that the limitations of the essay would enable me to write more than 495 words, but those are the rules.
