The themes and lessons taught in one of the oldest Books in existence, the Bible, are still use by writers of modern literature. This paper will first take a look at why I believe this is a true statement and then focus on one particular author, C. S. Lewis, and how he used Biblical allegories to entertain his readers but, more importantly, educate and enlighten them to Christian beliefs and ideals. Lewis did this without preaching to his reader – he simply wrote with his Christianity in mind and let his words or stories do their work. I will use several C. S. Lewis novels as well as the Bible to prove my observations. A respected theologian, Wayne Grudem, wrote about the “essential teachings of the Christian faith” and I will use those “teachings” to further explore Lewis’ writings. Living in this electronic world also dictates that some “web” research be included in the defense of my thesis. Bibliography: Grudem, Wayne.
