This is project 2 Procedure: You can gain some experience designing your own research by selecting among the following options: Option 1: Watch at least five hours of TV, spread over several time periods, and record the number of male and female characters and whether they are the central character or a minor character: Option 2: Watch four to six hours of TV, selecting among several different types of programs, and note the activities of each male and female character in the following categories: aggression, nurturance, problem solving, conformity, and physicals exertive behavior. Option 3: Watch and analylize the commercials on at least ten programs, making sure that the programs cover the full range of types, from sports to soap operas. You might count a number of male and female participants in the commercials and the nature of their activity in each case, using some of the same categories listed in option 2. Anaylsis and Report: In preparing your report, you need to specifiy clearly which of these options (or some other) you choose, which programs you watched and how you defined your terms, and what results you obtained. What do you think these results mean for the average viewer of TV? Each report should follow the same general format, similiar to the standard organization of a research report you might see in a journal: 1. Introduction: What is the question you are trying to answer? What might you expect to find? 2. Method: What did you actually do? 3. Results: What did you find? If quantitative data have been collected, you need to present them in some comprehensible form.
