Realism and Liberalism have remained the dominant theoretical paradigms in IR theory. However, they have not remained uncontested as seen by challenges from Marxism, Feminism, and Social Constructivism. Consider the contributions of these perspectives to your understanding of the world. As you do so consider the core assumptions of these theories [very briefly] and the kinds of questions and insights they bring to us. Think how these perspectives shape our perceptions of, or challenge our Realist and Liberal assumptions and theories. Do they force us to ask different kinds of questions, address phenomena that we would otherwise ignore and question the ‘naturalness’ of our concepts. Your answer should be substantiated by references to events/incidents that have occurred or may be occurring in the international arena – at least where possible.
