The essay''s content should comprise : (1) Interesting introduction ending with a debatable thesis statement; (2) Any necessary background information (how much depends on what your audience knows already); (3) Explanation of the opposing side’s arguments(s) (again, how much depends on your strategy—whether you are simply using it for ethos (to establish yourself as a fair and knowledgeable writer) or whether you are refuting particular points of the opposing argument); (4) Topic paragraphs that elaborate on and support your thesis; these include supporting appeals and evidence; (5) Conclusion that leaves the reader thinking—use a strong and appropriate concluding tactic; (6) Properly formatted Works Cited at the end of the paper (just citations, arranged and formatted correctly—no annotations).
