Assignment: The assignment is to write a paper on any aspect of Rushdie''s The Moor''s Last Sigh based on one of the following critical approaches: New Criticism, New Historicism/Cultural Studies, Post-feminist studies, or Queer Theory. The heart of your paper should be a standard analytical piece of writing about literature, using quotations from Rushdie''s novel to support the persuasive claims you are making within the critical approach that you''ve selected. However your paper should also include two other separate elements. 1. An Introductory Frame stating which critical approach you''ve selected, why you selected, and what kinds of questions about the novel you''ve selected to focus on based on this critical approach (this can be just a paragraph or up to a page) 2. A Concluding Frame in which you summarize what you learned by applying the critical approach you selected to Rushdie''s novel.
