Book Summery Project Objective: Outsourcing of Projects is fast becoming a common occurrence. It is important for students of outsourcing to understand the technological and industry drivers of outsourcing. Where major players in outsourcing industry are located and how they are positioning for success. The final objective of the project is for students to extrapolate where this trend will lead in next five years and position your career for success. The book under review is “The World is Flat – A brief history of 21st century’ by Thomas L. Friedman. Project Rubric: Student will write approximately ten to twelve page paper (double spaced, Ariel 10 Fonts) coving following topics. 1) Reflections: One page synopsis of your personal observations about the book, if you are in agreement with author or you feel that this book is one person’s view of the changes in world. 2) Forces that flattened the world: Two / three page narration of any one flattener that you believe is one of the most important ‘flattener’. Opening lines should clearly state why you have chosen a particular flattener. Write details as a section summery and justify your conclusions. 3) ‘Triple convergence’ – Write a two / three page narration of ‘triple convergence’ that lead to enablement of the outsourcing and off-shoring as a major business phenomenon. 4) ‘Quite Crisis’ – Write a two / three page narration on the section ‘Quite crises. Why he author believes that there is a crisis in the offing. Do you agree with the author? If yes, Suggest your ‘fixes’ to the crisis; if not, explain why not. 5) Choosing a profession – Write two / three page opinion of your views on which professions will perish and which will thrive over next five to ten years? If you were to chose a profession to adjust to new realities, which one it would be? Why? 6) Conclusion – Conclude in one page if this book helped you better understand outsourcing? Did this prompt you to think about your career afresh? If you were to re-read one section of the book again, which one it would be?
