How does slavery influence black theatre productions and black writers? What issues have slavery brought to present day within the black community that is also presented in black writing and productions? i.e. light skin vs dark skin, african vs west indians. Also add some of your own examples. I am writing a research essay- Are black production and black writing a true reflection of the black way of life? I want to add a bit about slavery to show what slavery has done to influence our life and how its presented through theatre and writing. this is the bit I want you to do. Some productions I using to show my answers are ''a statment of regret'' - a statement of regret is by a new writer kwame google him he may be a bit interesting (Think hes west indian and change his name to an african name?)google stament of regret to read what its about and ''dutty wine''-a production from the blue mountain theatre. google dutty wine so you can get a bit of info on it and also google the blue mountain theatre so you can see what there about and maybe look at there other coming or past productions. When writing this essay I want you to be aware of the overall question and the direction im going for, here are some points im raising in my essay -black production do give a true reflection but a exxagerated view to creat entertainment -but do people that are not accustomed to our way no that these are exxagerated - so is it writers and productions resposiblity to educate etc Please fully reference and use quotes and show where they have been used. If you can think of other productions and writers to support you please use them as this is a research essay so it will be good.but make sure its something I could have read or seen, I live in london. Also I visited eliminas slave castle in cape coast, ghana and it was horrible but one thing I notice was that there was a seperate house for the mixed race children. Alot of old school attitudes in the west indies are that the whiter you are the better chance of a life you get,my friend grans still believes this. so these are the types of things I want you to think about.
