The module investigates the application of statutory frameworks in practice, and looks at the changing role of social work with a wide range of service users. This is not a law module, but you are expected to draw on your legal knowledge as well as your learning on matters of policy development and anti-discriminatory practice. The module also gives you the opportunity to undertake an independent critical literature review on a relevant topic of social work/social care practice. This will be in the form of a critical review of literature relevant to an area of social work/social care practice. This is a literature-based study. Students are not required to undertake an independent piece of primary research. These are the tasks you should undertake: 1. Choose an area of social work/care practice that includes areas of risk, rights, and care and control. This practice area may be linked to your previous or current work experience 2. Undertake a literature search for your chosen practice area. 3. From this search, you should produce a critical review of the literature. 4. This review should conclude with a discussion of the applicability of the review to your practice area.
