This assignment is founded on principles action research and reflective practice. You should aim to demonstrate your understanding and appreciation of action research methods and their application to specific design contexts by: - Interactive peer discussion Developing appropriate methods of recording and Designing and implementing action research, reflective practice process models. Brief You are asked to present your own reflective practice process model based on your background reading and your understanding of action research principles This should be communicated using a simple diagram. You should demonstrate how you have implemented this process model into your day to day practice, this may be through the use of a recording template derived from your reflective practice model. You may find it necessary/desirable to alter or develop your reflective practice model as a result of applying it in action, this is entirely appropriate but you should record the changes you have made and why you have made them. Assignment Submission Your submission should be in the form of a 1000 word description of your reflective practice model, explaining how it has been derived and developed and referencing key points from your background reading. This should also describe how you go about using the model in your practice (possibly through using a recording template) and may reference elements of your learning plan. Assessment Your submission should: Demonstrate an awareness of the practicalities of the planning, action, reflection and evaluation cycle of action research methods in the context of different areas of design practice. Show an understanding of the process of recording reflective practice project materials to effectively enable reflection and evaluation. Create action research and reflective practice models appropriate to their own working context. Development of process models incorporating reference to recording and collaborating methods is key to assessment. Aims The module aims to develop an understanding and appreciation of action research methods and their application to specific design contexts by:- • Involving the student in personal study and interactive peer discussion of existing action research case study project material. • Developing the students knowledge and skills of appropriate methods of recording and • Designing and implementing action research, reflective practice process models. Learning Outcomes The student will be able to:- • Demonstrate an awareness of the practicalities of the planning, action, reflection and evaluation cycle of action research methods in the context of different areas of design practice. • Show an understanding of the process of recording reflective practice project materials to effectively enable reflection and evaluation. • Create action research and reflective practice models appropriate to their own working context. Assessment Strategy Students are required to present the development of a design practice process model which evidences related research both in its creation and continuous improvement. The student’s reporting of their own personal experience provides an overview of their intellectual engagement with the principles of action research and reflective practice. Development of process models incorporating reference to recording and collaborating methods is key to assessment.
