Each topic will highlight some aspect of Japan or of the U.S., which will contribute to the overall understanding of the two states. Most topics do not require a U.S.-Japan comparison or relation, but rather simply illuminate features or phenomena of that country, which will serve all of us to better understand a part of that country, and will be important as well develop an overall comparative sense of the two countries. You will be expected to cover the following factors: 1) Relevant background facts: Provide just enough information to give us a context, what is relevant for us today. 2) Causes and/or reasons why your issue is important to the U.S. and/or Japan. 3) Try to identify the major features, history, actions or policies and actors involved, including personalities, institutions, values, etc. and how that may have affected the outcome. 4) Offer conclusions on the consequences for all parties involved, or the importance of the meaning of your subject. 3 pages long + biography, charts, photos
