Network Terminal Motherboard – Supermicro C2SBA + II iG33 This motherboard has 1gb LAN which is the highest speed LAN at the moment compared to the standard 100mbps so would be ideal for a network terminal. It is an Intel iG33 chipset so has built in graphics but has the option of upgrading to a high-powered graphics card with its PCI-E (x16) slot. As well as several other expansion slots for extra cards. It is a very capable motherboard that can cope with a high-speed processor with front side bus speeds of up to 1333MHz. It can handle up to 8mb ddr2 ram across 4 slots at 800MHz maximum. The Socket is an Intel 775 socket and is compatible with the latest Intel CPU’s including the Core 2 Quad duo. The Motherboard is a key component It is vital to the function of the computer and every other component that is associated with the computer.The CPU is an Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 2.2GHz, which is dual core and will help with multitasking and multithreaded software applications. It has a Front Side bus speed of 800 MHz and a clock speed of 2.20 GHz, which is more than fast enough for the tasks this machine, will be performing. The CPU is a key component and the computer could not function without it. RAM- Crucial 512MB DDR2 The Ram is 1 stick of 512mb DDR2 PC6400, which is capable of speeds of 800 MHz. It is non-error checking so is more affordable. The Ram is a key component. The CPU needs Ram to store data for processing. The computer could not function without it.The Case is a Foxcone s-809 It comes with a 400w power supply unit. It is an ATX Midi Tower and will fit an ATX form factor motherboard. It is a very good price and includes a PSU. It provides adequate cooling for the basic tasks the computer will be performing. The case has enough 3.5” and 5.25” bays for a hard drive and a DVD combi drive Hard drive – 74GB Western Digital WD740ADFD. This is the world’s fastest SATA drive at 10,000 RPM it has a 4.5ms seek rate DVD/CD Combi Drive - ATAPI/E-IDE Half-Height internal DVD+R / DVD+RW / DVD+R9 / DVD-R9 / DVD-RAM / DVD-ROM / CD-R / CD-RW / CD-ROM Combination drive. This is a basic DVD/CD combination drive with compatibility with all common DVD and cd formats. It is able to burn/write DVD/CD as well as read at the fastest rates. This will be a very useful tool for a network terminal within an office environment. Windows XP Professional has Microsoft Outlook Express for email and Internet Explorer 6. It also has Microsoft Works, which has a number of useful applications such as Microsoft Words Word Processor and Spreadsheet. Windows is the most commonly used operating system in the world today. The operating system is key to the function of the computer. It allows the user to controls basic functions such as receiving information from the keyboard, displaying information on the monitor and opening programmes and applications with the mouse. Software – Microsoft Office Basic OEM This version of Microsoft Office is ideal for small business computers and comes with three essential applications; Microsoft Office Word for word processing, Microsoft Office Exel, for spreadsheets and Microsoft Office Internet Explorer for browsing the Internet. Keyboard – Logitech Internet Pro Keyboard This keyboard is ideal for the everyday internet user and has eight quick keys for the most frequent internet tasks such as email and accessing web pages. It also has XP native hot keys, which makes almost all functions available. This keyboard is extremely cost effective and is spill proof, which would come in handy in the event of any drinks that might get spilt in a busy office environment. It is not a key component as the computer can operate without it. Mouse – Labtec Wireless Mouse This mouse is a wireless laser mouse with a RF USB wireless receiver. It can be used without a mouse mat and because there are no wires it will keep the number of wires on the desk to a minimum. This is not key to the function of the computer.
