Your task is to describe an intelligent system that could be used by management. To achieve this in the time available, you will need to: · Choose a small well-defined management problem. · Identify an opportunity to create an IS to help solve that problem. · Perform a survey of current Intelligent Systems techniques that can be used for a solution of that problem. · Choose an intelligent technique suited to this solution. · Describe the knowledge that is required for this solution. Examples of intelligent systems to solve management problems · Advice on selecting modules on registration for School of Computing and Technology · Advice on choosing rooms for classes · Strategic web site design for small businesses · Advice on jobs, partners, funding sources · Guidance for job applicants · Responsive, customised, online questionnaires · Diagnosis of problems · A casebased reasoning guide to module choice · A neural net to identify European flags · Predictions (shares, currencies, football, horses) using machine learning · Systems to illuminate a social issue (the environment, food and religion, disabilities, underdevelopment) · Competitor analysis · Pattern recognition (handwriting, faces, pictures, writing) using neural networks · Intelligent agent simulations You can think of something new! You are free to organise it in whatever way best explains your work. However you organise it, you must ensure that it includes the following aspects: 1. The problem to be solved 2. The opportunities for developing intelligent system solutions to that problem 3. A survey of current Intelligent Systems techniques that can be used for a solution of that problem 4. Your choice of solution 5. Representations of the knowledge elicited (from experts) or learned (from data) 6. Critical assessment and selection of the appropriate available IS architectures and formalisms for intelligent solutions to management problems 7. Recommendations based on your work for those who may follow in your footsteps. A report should contain the following: · Description of the problem · Assessment of intelligence needs in relation to that problem · A survey of current Intelligent Systems techniques in relation to that problem · Design of intelligent solution/system · Representations of the knowledge · Presentation of a formal statement of the given problem/task · Application of an intelligent technique taught in the Module to the given problem. · Critical evaluation of application of the chosen technique (e.g. compare/measure of model performance, etc.) · Description and explanation of support which is needed to implement the intelligent system that you propose · A discussion of the level of success achieved and any enhancements which would improve the work. You could use appendix to introduce details of the application of the intelligent technique.
