SAMPLE DISSERTATION STRUCTURE Executive summary: The purpose of this very short section is to tell the reader some thing about the contents. About 1/3 of the executive summary length guideline should explain what you intended to do (parameters). The other 300-500 words 2/3rds should tell the reader what you did, including recommendations. The executive summary may duplicate some material included in the Introduction and/or the conclusion. Introduction: introduce the topic, outline the key areas to be covered and identify your primary aims and objectives. It should be around 500-1000 words. The background section should be short and securely focused on the topic. Real statistical data can be included.Larger themes, as well as specific topics, should be identified. Literature Review: The literature review is not a book review! Contents of books and articles are only useful if particular points have some direct relevance to your dissertation. Compare and contrast ideas, theories and/or views relevant to your research topic. At least 10 references should be discussed. 3-4 different models or theories or views should be mentioned. It should be around 2000-3000words. At the end of this chapter, identify the principal research questions to be addressed in the dissertation. These will form the bases of your discussions in the subsequent chapter on Research Methodology.(some principal questions i was focusing on are : 1. What is the past and current situation in Turkish Textile? 2. How did China affect Turkish Textile industry? 3. What strategies can Turkey implement to counter the threat from China? 4. Where is Turkish industry is going? 5. What can be done to improve this industry and take competitive advantage over the competitor countries?) Research Methodology: Begin by reviewing briefly some common methods advocated for structuring research pro grammes. Then look again at the research questions formulated at the end of the Literature Review. Select the kind of programme best suited for addressing those particular research questions, and discuss the reasons prompting your decision. Discuss the research strategies adopted, the collection procedures selected and the difficulties and/or problems encountered. It should be around 2000-3000 words. it must include research aims and objectives(research questions),research philosophy(selected philosophies and the reason of selecting them), research approach(selected approaches and the reason of selecting them),research perspective and selected perspective), research strategies and techniqies and the selected ones, data collection methods and selected ones) you can use Findings and discussion: Your findings may be derived from the analyses of statistical data, interviews, questioners, or any viable combination of instruments used for research collection and the measurement of data. Link important points of this chapter back to principal ideas in the Literature Revuew. For example, compare the theories discussed in the literature review with the evidence obtained in your interviews.it must be around 2500-3000 words. End this chapter with a brief summary of your findings. This, in turn, should set the scene for the concluding chapter. Conclusions and recommendations: it should be around 800-1500 words. Be sure that all of the questions raised in the literature review has been addressed; weigh the final results of your research against the original aims and objectives of the dissertation. Anomalies, for example, can be important and interesting; Add recommendations.Ideas for further research and/or some strategies advocated for better management of the issue or the enterprise are particularly useful. Bibliography: All books, articles, sources of statistical data and websites used in the dissertation must be listed in the bibliography. Additional sources consulted should also be placed in the bibliography. Entries in the bibliography should be placed in alphabetical order. Web sites, however, should be grouped together separately at the end of the bibliography. Appendices: Interview summaries, and sample questionnaires, for example, should appear in the appendices. Presentation factors to consider: submit a dissertation that reflects your professional commitment to completing the task assigned. This includes: Effective organization,good spelling and grammar, clear evidence of careful proofreading, proper citation of research sources,an adequate bibliography presented in the correct format, providing useful appendices,effective use of tables and/or graphs and/or design.
