The project brief is on the subject of ‘Diversity’. This is a broad topic, and therefore, you are advised to focus your report on one of the key elements of diversity. It is suggested that you could focus on one of the following. Some resources have been provided in the portal to support these: The options are: 1.Women into senior management. This could focus on women operating in a Western culture, or could be broadened to look at other cultures and countries. 2.Work-life balance 3.A general approach to equal opportunities based on religion race, gender, gender re-assignment, disability with a focus on policies and implementation strategies. 4.Bullying at work 5.Building a multi-cultural international team. Report Structure Executive summary This is a stand- alone, A-4 page at the front of the report which is a concise mini-version of the whole report. Introduction Terms of reference for the report-(objectives) Background to the subject- What is diversity and why is it important in the current business environment? Background to any company that you are going to use as your REAL case study and for primary research Present situation for that company. Are they following good practice or are they having difficulties and facing problems? Analysis Literature review- This means that you select the most relevant articles and texts and discuss the key theories and practices. You should paraphrase the key findings of these articles and theorists, and quote only that which is so important and profound that it must be said in no other way. Use Harvard in-text referencing. Information is typically available on employment law and tribunal outcomes which may relate to ‘diversity.’ Process: For each key idea / theme, you should: • Define the point • Explain the key elements • Give an example • Compare and contrast the competing theorists / ideas and evaluate their strengths and weaknesses • Conclude with your own views Primary research Identify an organization that will give you good access and cooperation: You can interview HR practitioners You can look at consultancies and interest groups that specialize in these areas With permission you may be able to interview or observe employees Research instrument: Questionnaire Interview Observation check list Data analysis and discussion on findings Summarise key data and discuss how these findings impact. How might they relate to theory and what are the implications for the company and or good practice in the area of diversity Conclusions This is a type of summary that pulls together all the key points, facts and views that you have found and relates it back to theory. It answers the question of what is good practice and you can compare your company to it. It also discusses possible solutions and implementation strategies. Alternatives can be explored, and a preferred option for improvement decided upon. This needs to be justified. (Time, cost and operational difficulties) Recommendations: These are clear statements which often include a time frame.
