Dana’s Case: “A Conflict between the Spirit and the Flesh” 1. Background 2. This case is the study of my dilemma of not joining the choir at my new church home. I’m relatively a new Member. Prior to 3. joining, I was a choir member at my former church home. There, I was also a part of the Praise and Worship Team. I found 4. myself really enjoying it so much so that I began to do it on my own at home. I began to seek out music tracks that ministered to 5. my spirit. I then practiced singing these songs as unto God. “I wish I could sing His praises full time, I thought to myself”. 6. Shortly thereafter, I was asked to sing a soundtrack at church. This desire touched me so much that I began to gather more tracks 7. to sing. I was then asked to sing at different events such as baby showers, birthday parties and even weddings. Eventually God 8. blessed me to sing two tracks each Sunday at another church that was just starting. People reported to me that they were touched 9. by the songs as it ministered to them. One day I received a prophetic word saying that God had given me this desire to sing and that it is not my own doing but the Holy Spirit that has planted this ministry within my heart. 10. Description 11. Before joining my new church home, I was lead to sing one of the tracks that I had learned. The pastor and congregation received 12. it very well as I was given so much encouragement to keep on singing. One of the choir members asked me to join the choir. My 13. response was, “I’m not even a member yet”. Eventually I was lead to join the Church about three months later though. Then 14. Pastor asked me to sing at a sunrise service for him. He requested that I sing right before his Resurrection Sunday message at 15. another church. On another occasion, Pastor called me up to sing a song at one our Revival Services. Later he revealed to me that 16. this particular service none of the choir members were present to sing and he needed some music in the service. I was glad for the 17. opportunity to sing again unto the Lord. I felt so blessed and honored to have even been asked. A few days later, pastor told me 18. that he received a call from one of the choir members expressing their disgruntled feelings about me singing at another church for 19. him and singing solos without being a part of the music department. It made me feel really bad. I told pastor that I didn’t want to 20. cause any discord in the church. I asked him if he thought I should talk to that person letting them know that I didn’t mean to 21. make them angry or cause any harm; that I was just trying to fulfill a request from the pastor. He replied “no, that would not be 22. good. “Don’t say anything. I’m not going to tell you who made the call anyway.” So I left it alone. A few weeks later, the pastor 23. Called me and said that he really would like me to sing one of my songs in the service. This time I was reluctant to fulfill his request. I told him that I didn’t want him to be put in awkward position and cause any tension between the music department
