I am having trouble with this topic very much. I have never written thesis before so I don''t know the structure of it.To give you some idea where i am going wrong here is My plan was Introduction A. Problem: Australia is trying to deal with a “new set of immigrants” that are very unlike previous immigrants to Australia. B. Scale of Problems: Caused problems within the Australian government and angst among citizens because of the changing way immigrants are being treated and how present problem is different from previous immigration problems C. Contribution: A new way to look at how immigration policy should be handled now in the post 9/11 and Bali world. D. What’s New: A new suggestion on how Australia can be receptive to new immigrants without losing its culture. E. Why bother doing this: Immigration is an important topic because of the countries who are rich like Australia are seen as safe havens by people from countries ravaged by poverty. Obviously, there has to be an open-door policy, but a an pen door policy with some controls to protect against entry by immigrants who may harm not help Australian society. Chapter 1 A. Background: How Australian immigration policy got to be what it is today B. Scene Setting: What are the opinions about immigration policy in Australia today-public and private. C. Responses: Discussion of what the government’s policy is at the present time and how the citizens of Australia are reacting to the new immigration crisis in Australia D. Argument: There must be a continuation of immigration in Australia, but there must be some constraints that prevent Australia from being open to those who might want to alter Australian culture. Chapter 2 A. The Howard policy on immigration versus the current governments B. How American immigration policies have influenced Australian immigration policy Chapter 3 A. What scholars have said about current Australian policy B. What experts think is the cause of the new fear of immigration in Australia and if it is influenced by the American immigration problem. Conclusion A: Contribution: An argument for allowing immigration but developing a national policy that allows for some constraints not now placed on who can come to Australia. Here what my supervisor said Some comments: I think that you are trying to squeeze a lot into the intro section. Really, this should be about setting up the problem – introducing the debate and giving the reader essential background. If you are trying to ‘confront’ the reader with the essence of the argument, then you can leave some of the context and background until later – but give some thought to moving some of the material in your 1A to the intro and being as tight and focussed as possible in the intro. You probably should make sure that you have some overt coverage of the main literature in the early sections. – perhaps before 3A In Chapter 1 you talk about opinions of current policy and reactions to the ‘crisis’. One question will be – how do you propose measuring this? Another will be what do you mean by crisis? I am not too sure exactly what you mean by the sentence under conclusion – but don’t worry too much about this at this stage as I am sure that this will become much clearer as you get closer to it with the writing. In this thesis he wants both primary and secondary sources speeches of politician’s immigration ministers . Well research with evidenece of supporting the argument. Academic style with clear argument that’s what he wants. I received many criticize during my seminar papers one of marker said that: (a) you cannot simply take sources at face value- you need to think about who is writing what and why (b) you need to show an awareness of other perspectives that may not support the argument that you are trying to make I need to avoid this in thesis.
