The Case Study Organisation I have chosen is HMV!! Content Your essay should include the following six sections: 1. Introduction: - Briefly describe the key defining characteristics of your Case Study organisation (e.g. its ‘type’). - Outline the functional areas exhibited in your Case Study organisation (e.g. ‘Sales and Marketing’). - Illustrate the organisational activity levels (i.e. strategic, tactical and operational) exhibited in your Case Study organisation. 2. Organisational structure: - Describe the structure of your Case Study organisation, in terms of both ‘horizontal’ and ‘vertical’ differentiation. 3. External environment: - Provide a PEST analysis in which you clearly indicate examples of the elements in the ‘general environment’ which influence your Case Study organisation. - Give an analysis of the ‘operating environment’ in which you indicate examples of elements which interact with the Case Study organisation. 4. Supporting role of information to organisational activity levels: - Describe examples of types of information used by each of the organisational activity levels in your Case Study organisation. 5. Supporting role of information systems to organisational activity levels: - Explain how the information systems (which may or may not be computer based) in place in the Case Study organisation support the provision and processing of this information. N.B. You may combine sections 4 and 5 in one section if you wish. 6. Conclusions: - Summarise your key conclusions regarding the Case Study organisation’s structure, environment, use of information and information systems. In all sections (except your ‘Conclusions’) you must provide (1) a concise explanation of the relevant theory, making use of published resources, and (2) examples in which you apply the relevant theory to your Case Study organisation. For example, you should explain what ‘PEST’ means and include reference to published resources to support your explanations, and provide examples of PEST elements relevant to your Case Study organisation. Length 3,000 words (+/- 10%) excluding reference list (bibliography) and (any) appendices. Individual sections of your essay should be of approximately the same length, with the exception of your ‘Conclusions’ which may be covered more briefly. Format Essay format, word-processed single-sided on A4 paper, 12 point font with one-and-a-half line spacing. Number each page of your essay.
