1.Part 1 of the Paper – Topic Selection and Selection of Relevant Research Article (5%). a) Using the steps in your text (pp. 82-83; p. 96 – Box 4.6), ( I can scan out those specific pages if necessary) conduct a search using CINAHL and choose several nursing research papers published in the scholarly literature that fits your topic/phenomenon of interest – pick the ONE article you will critique for Part 2 of the paper. i. Start with broad terms and search the database from 2000 to 2008; narrow the search to focus on the specific topic. Do NOT limit the search to full-text as this will restrict the search to articles that are Ovid full-text. Once the search is completed, then check “find it at York” to determine if the article you selected is available through the York on-line sources. ii. Your article must be nursing research – defined for this course as research conducted by nurses (at least one nurse must be an author of the paper) or if credentials of the author(s) is/are not clear, the article is published in a nursing journal. iii. Print a copy of the search that includes the steps you took that resulted in the article you have selected, including key terms, combinations, and limits, and the listing from which you selected the articles. Note, you may need to rerun the search to include only the steps that “worked” for you. To print the search, check box that says “search history” at the bottom of the page (to be demonstrated by librarian in class 3 or 4). iv. Print a copy of the article you have selected and provide a clean copy with the paper. v. NOTE – if you find more than one article and want feedback on the best one to critique you may submit more than one article (but this is not expected or required). b) Content of the paper, using APA format: i. Identify a single topic/phenomenon of interest to you and briefly discuss why you selected it (one paragraph – to maximum of one page). ii. Describe the steps you took to locate the final article, especially why you selected the article from the ones in the last step(s) of your search (one paragraph – to maximum of one page).
