topic – an issue/topic related to globalism (this gives you a very broad range of topics from which to choose. look at the themes of the course to give you some guidance (power, economics, social justice, technology, government, and environment). you will write about the topic from 2 social science perspectives – so for example, if you are looking at food shortage as a topic, what are some cultural, political, environmental issues that impact food shortage. who wins, who loses? (you will need to narrow the topic of food shortage to something that can be covered in 5-7 pages). this is a descriptive research paper – that is, you are describing the issue and the two sides/aspects you choose to research. this is not an opinion paper. your concluding paragraph of the paper will sum up the material/people you have read. you are not writing a critical research paper in which you pick sides and defend your choice. this research paper is too short for that. length – 5-7 pages of text (this number does not include the title page, abstract page or the references pages) the sections you must include in your paper are: title page abstract text references other sections (such as tables, figures, etc.) as appropriate (most of you will not have any of these) you must use the apa (american psychological association) style for your paper. go to http://owl.english.purdue.edu/handouts/research/r_apa.html for a good handout on the APA style and the specific formatting required for each section of your paper. You may want to print this out for your records. Follow the APA guidelines for margins (1” all around your paper – see me if you do not know how to change the margins in your word processor program). Put a “running heading” on each page – this is put in the upper right hand corner of each page and consists of the title of the paper and the page number – I will be happy to show you how to do this in your word processing program. If at any time you are unclear about the format of the paper (as well as the content, etc.), please contact the instructors or the writing consultants for help. We will be very glad to look at drafts, final products, etc. to make sure you have complied with the APA format.
