I want to stucy the effects of acupuncture for treating depression. The effects here include specific and non-specific effects. Under specific effects I want to know which acupoints specifically for which diagnosis in the APA''s DSM-IV with explanation why/how it works in both traditional Chinese medicine/ traditional Chinese acupuncture terms (Yin-Ynag, five elements, qi-blood) and conventional western medical terms. Depression is to include major depressive disorder and bipolar/manic depression as defined by the APA. The objectives is to test the effect of acupuncture as a system within traditional Chinese medicine with full explanation linked to traditional Chinese acupuncture literature, acupuncture classics. The research proposal is for submission as part of requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, to be submitted in July 2010. It should be 20 pages APA style. Half of the pages will be for literature review and the other half is for design. The design can be qualitative, quantitative or mixed methods. Literature review should have 50% taken from Traditional Chinese medicine fundamentals and acupuncture classics such as Ling-xu, Su-wen etc. The other 50% is whatever available curretly.
