The purpose of this assignment is to enhance your understanding of the affects of globalization on one particular country. This exercise also aims at helping you identify who is winning and who is losing in the globalization of your country. Articulate your own informed perspective about globalization in specific situations. Globalization has many definitions and impacts different people in different countries in different ways. Here you are to select one developing country and critically examine how globalization is affecting any one sector of society or the country in general. You can focus on the impact of one global corporation on your country or select one industry. For example, you can examine the role of Goodyear in extracting rubber from Liberia or you could look at the impact of frozen chickens from England being imported into Ghana. Pay attention to the impact on the people and to the overall country and who is making the money. You can look at economic issues, social issues, international trade, culture, etc. Questions can include: Is globalization impacting just one or two sectors of the country? Who is benefiting? Who is being left out? What globalization entities are operating in your selected country? Are NGOs involved? Consider the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF).
