It is a research project in which the learner identifies a topic, finds five articles on that topic, writes an annotated bibliography of it and the summarizes the major concepts. Make sure that all numbered sections have a complete response. Approach Utilize the following guides in developing your Research Report. Select a limited topic area to be researched. Brief Introduction: state why this specific topic was chosen (be complete). Find five (5) articles/reports in professional/scholarly journals in educational psychology and education. Respond to the following items for each article. & #167; Name of the article including the use of the complete bibliographic citation for each article, using APA format. & #167; Summary/abstract of the article (sometimes it is helpful to ask yourself the following questions in synthesizing the information: who; what (was done); how (was it done); what were the findings; contributions (findings that may have been made to new information on the topic area, applications etc.). & #167; Statements(s) supporting how, specifically, this article contributed to your knowledge of the selected topic area. Be brief, but fully explain. & #167; Your critical opinion regarding the worth of the article, findings (Was it an article that helped support the selected topic area? Was it well written? Did it reveal new ideas, findings, etc., regarding the topic area?) & #167; What new learning took place as a result of reading this article? In this section synthesis of the content from the five articles is developed into a summary of the major concepts in the readings. Summarize the findings from the overall research (using the learning from each of the articles and the statement of contribution (the last four bullets above). & #167; Description: topic; why selected; what was done; any barriers encountered; be complete. & #167; What was found overall ( general statements of the findings) & #167; Key points from the findings, (it may be helpful to list them). & #167; An evaluation if the research as conducted supported the selected topic area. & #167; Knowledge, skills, insights that were gained State two applications for each of the three areas, using the new learning and other Course knowledge, the research articles to your: & #167; Program of studies & #167; Personal growth & #167; Current role: for example your work, as a student, as a parent-.professional-working of your consideration. Evaluate this activity as it relates to you as an individual and your professional career. Format & #167; Cover Sheet & #167; Double spaced & #167; right and left; top and bottom margins. & #167; In header, top right, place abbreviated title of document and your last name (should be on each page) & #167; No paragraph indent & #167; 12 point font – Times New Roman & #167; Number the pages – right upper margin & #167; APA format citing system & #167; No outline or abstract is required & #167; No reference sheet is necessary as guideline #4 is, essentially, an annotated bibliography Evaluation is based upon the compliance with the Research Project format and the Course Rubric. Definition of “scholarly journal” – A scholarly journal, for the purposes of the course, are those journals that are research based, may be a publication of a professional association, may be a journal such as Nature, Scientific American, etc. and are authored. The majority of research articles are primary sources (based upon the observations and experience of the individuals). Articles from the Web, generally do not meet the criteria of a scholarly journal. Some professional journals can be reached through the Internet. Magazines and newspapers are secondary sources. Overall, books are secondary sources; however, they may be a primary source. An example would be an author who wrote firsthand a book discussing his/her research.
