What physical problems you will you have as well as physical advantages. How would you describe your health? Are you getting around ok and do you need any types of assistance? Do you have a doctor and do yoy have access to health care? How is your health paid for. Discuss your senses and which of them will have been impacted by aging and to what degree. Will you be able to communicate verbally or have to relay on non-verbal means of communication ( i.e. due to stroke,etc) 2. Social : What kind of a family and personal situation will you have when you are older? What is the nature of your family structure and composition ? Will you be married? Single ? Have a significant partner? Other significant relationships? What type of living situation will you be in? Will you be living with one of your children, on your own, or with other old adults? Will you have any hobbies (thismay depend on your sensory impairment)? Wherewill you go if you go out? What do you most enjoy doing? 3. Financial : What will your finances be like when you are older? Extrapolate from how you handle money currently in your life. Are you a saver or a spender? Will you have retirement or just have to relay on Social Security. Identify and discuss the impact that social and economic barriers, obstacles or being a member of a population at risk has had on your life. 4. Emotional / Mental : What are three words to describe yourself as an old person? What kind of person are you? Research shows that our personalities do not change signifcantly as we age, but may become magnified as a result of loss,change, stress, and illness.For, example if you now become irate fairly easily in traffic, what will you be like in the dining hall waiting on your food when you are 80? What will you do to entertain yourself mentally? What are your strengths? What are your fears? Identify at least one personal value that has changed overyour life time and describe why. Try and reflect back on accomplishments and regerts. If you have any regrets; how have you dealt with them? 5. Spirtual : How important will this be to you? Extrapolate from how important it is to you now. How will you practice your faith or if you have noe, what will be most important to you as you think of your own death? What has given you the most satisfaction in ypour life? What are you hoping for? 6. Legacy : Since you are 80 you are thinking about what you will leave behind, both in terms of tangible items and intangible qualities. What will you be known for? What will you have left to those who cared for you or to society at large? What does this reflect about coming to terms with your own aging process in order to work effectively with older adults ?
