1. Definition of the problem will be discussed in the project: The latest IMO study of greenhouse gas emissions has estimated that emissions from the global fleet would increase dramatically in the next 20 years as globalization leads to increased demand for bigger, faster ships. Without action the IMO predicts that by 2020, emissions from ships would increase up to 72%. The purpose of this research is to report the results of the study on ferries’, departing from the port of Piraeus, emissions and their effects. Summarize the potential methods which can be applied to reduce them basis the IMO and the European Committee current legislation & guidelines in respect to the Air pollution from ships. 2. Scope of the project: Analysis of the emissions of the Greek ferries departing from the port of Piraeus and traveling within the Greek territorial waters. The project will summarize the percentage [basis the provided data] & effects of the Sox / PM emissions CO2 emissions period of analysis:A full season divided in 2 main parts : Winter and Summer aim & Objectives This research aim to obtain an overview of the ferries emission in the operating in the main port of Greece, Piraeus, in order to summarize the data and plan a strategy which can be considered by the Ministry of Mercantile Marine and the port authority in order to eliminate the environmental impacts. To meet the research objectives the study will set out to: Calculate the ferries’ emission .
