My parents and I adopted five orphans from Russia. We didn''t adopt them all at once but over a three year period. This experience created who I am today by going from being the only child till seven years old to a middle child of six. These siblings looked up to me for guidance in our daily activities, transition into our family life, as well as academics. I helped teach them English, proper manners, and social skills. I had to adapt to living with several personalities and backgrounds, which forced us to work together as a family team. These life experiences have taught me how to help others and to work together as a team solving problems and controversies in a non-emotional approach. This experience forced me not to be selfish. I feel that this experience will help me face the challenges and responsibilities for the transition into adulthood. This would make me a second generation graduate of the university.
