The purpose of this assignment is to apply knowledge about child development principles into the planning process. The target age group is four-year olds. The three children chosen are bilingual (i.e. english and spanish), and one has a speech developmental delay. I need to plan a learning center with activities, that will meet the needs of the target group. The areas in the class will be based on the creative curriculum. Activities will be based on the developmental needs and characteristics of the children. The area selected is literacy. The scoring rubric for the plan consists of the following: 1)introduction with background information on selected strategies, includes evaluation of child approrpriate instructional strategies. Students evaluated varied instructional strategies to meet indiviudal physical, intellectual, and socio-emotional needs. 2)Activities for individual children. Student provided varied suitable and adaptable activities (intervention strategies to meet individual developmental ages and stages of young children). 3)Comparison of content acquisition to age group, student compares subject matter acquistion according to reasonable developmental expectations of different age groups. 4)Behavior, instructional, and social accomodations. Student demonstrated understanding of appropriate behavior, instructional, and social accomodations for young children with exceptional needs. 5)Differentiation of instruction. Student identified principles of differentiated instruction to meet the learning styles of the children with diverse cultural backgrounds in mainstream classes including those with exceptional needs.
