Here is my situation: On Friday nights, I often go to a small piano bar in Greenwich Village in New York City.? The name of the establishment is ?Marie?s Crisis.?? The crowd is usually extremely varied.? There are men, women, single people, couples, heterosexuals, homosexuals, people of different ethnic backgrounds, etc.? These are people that you would never imagine would come together in one place and socialize.? However, through the ritual of singing show tunes from such Broadway productions as ?A Chorus Line, Chicago, Mary Poppins, Annie, South Pacific? and ?Gypsy,? the crowd of strangers bonds and becomes very cohesive.? It?s fun, it?s freeing, and it?s extremely non-judgmental.? It?s a very noisy and happy crowd, but when an individual ventures to do a solo, everyone falls silent and becomes uncharacteristically respectful and almost reverent until the soloist is finished.? When the night is over, everyone leaves and returns to their everyday lives.? We might never see our fellow performers again, but for those few hours that we spent together, we were dear friends, getting together for a night of healthy camaraderie.
