Thinker profile You are required to read ONE of the major books by a political thinker and write a brief summary (1000 words) of the ideas presented therein. The major books are given under the names of the thinkers in the module booklet. Guidelines 1.Give a brief ‘history’ of the thinker you have chosen e.g. dates, period they lived in (e.g. Hobbes wrote just as civil war was looming in England, so influencing his ideas on political order; Aristotle was tutor to Alexander the Great and made a study of over 150 political constitutions). This gives a context to your profile and gives clues as to why the thinkers wanted to disseminate their ideas on ‘good’ politics. You will find information in the introduction to the thinker’s book and, perhaps, in some journal articles or book chapters about the thinker. DO NOT COPY THE MINUTIAE OF THE THINKER’S LIFE! JUST SET THE CONTEXT FOR THEIR IDEAS. (100-200 words). 2.Describe the main ideas in the book. What does the thinker want us to understand about politics; how do they think that ‘politics’ or socio-political structure and processes can be improved? How does the thinker describe their ‘good’ political system.
