A. Introduction - clearly state the chosen areas which are to be discussed in the main body of the assignment and the structure which is to be followed i.e. order in which parts are to be discussed. B. Main body - knowledge and understanding of the mentoring and assessing role i.e. role of mentor, good and bad role models, the effect these role models can have on the mentor/student. Evaluation of the learning environment in the practice setting. i.e. how are students encouraged to learn in practice? Were appropriate resourses available? could the learning environment be improved if yes how? if no, why not and what makes it a good envirnoment? Critical appraisal of own performance as a mentor and assessor, i.e. reflection of own performance. What worked well, what did not? How did you manage the assessment process for the student? How did you motivate the student? How was feedback provided to your student. Was this a positive or negative experience for you? What would you do differently with your next student? Evidence of knowledge and application of relevant theories i.e. how did you take account of the students learning style? How did you approach teaching a skill? What did you need to take into consideration. You need also to ensure that you have demonstrated within the assignment, what has been learnt by yourself during the module and how you have applied this within your own practice i.e. relations ship building skills, facilitate learning i.e. learning styles, NMC standards of proficiency, strategies for evaluating learning in practice, create an environment for learning, support learning within the context of practice, apply evidence based practice, demonstrate leadership skills for education.
