Final Project Assignment Assignment: Create an additional cluster for our textbook. (Convergences: Message, Method, and Medium 2nd edition—Robert Atwan) As you look through the textbook and complete the assigned readings this semester, you will notice that each chapter has an overall theme and includes six clusters of readings related to that theme. Each cluster approaches the theme from a different angle. In Chapter One, for example, the overall theme is "Staging Portraits," and the clusters we read explore how who we are may or may not be represented fully in photographs taken of us ("Representations"); how one writer''s confessional writing, photographs taken of her, and comments made about her constitute a portrait of who she was ("Confessions"); and how an artist''s photographs of her family are percieved differently by different audiences and by the subjects of those photographs, her children ("Family Photos"). In this assignment, I am asking you to create a cluster in the style of our textbook by locating at least one written work and at least two visuals that you believe would be a valuable addition to the textbook. You may choose to create a cluster for an existing chapter''s theme (a 7th cluster for "Staging Portraits," for example), or you may choose to come up with a new chapter theme ("Presidential Politics," perhaps) and create a cluster for that theme. The following items are required components of this project: 1. An introduction to your cluster (following the models in the textbook).These are usually 2-3 paragraphs long. They introduce the works in the cluster, telling a bit about what readers will find on the following pages. These introductions also explore the connections among those works and how they relate to the cluster''s theme AND the chapter''s overall theme. 2. At least one written text (an essay, an article, a blog post, a short story, a passage from a longer work of literature, etc.) 3. At least two visuals (a photograph, an advertisement, a Web site, a logo, a film still, a bumper sticker, etc.). 4. A brief introduction to each work included in the cluster (again following the models in the textbook). 5. At least one "Comment," which is a quote somehow related to the theme of the cluster. 6. Message, Method, and Medium questions about the works in the cluster. 7. A Works Cited page in MLA Style indicating the original sources of your texts, visuals, and comment. My project would be an additional cluster to chapter five: DIVIDING LINES and it will be called Religious Divide or Religious Lines
