During this module we''ve addressed the following learning outcomes: 1. Critically discuss the converging environmental and societal pressures that face an unsustainable organisation, review the options available to address these and argue cogently for the incorporation of environmental/societal considerations into an organisations'' operations and their treatment as legitimate business issues 2. Review and evaluate ways in which markets can be reshaped to embrace sustainability, and critically examine the effect of increasing sustainability pressures on organisations 3. Critically review the means and mechanisms available for organisations to measure and monitor their environmental and societal impacts, reflecting upon and articulating the differences between the nature of, and frameworks available for, environmental and sustainability reporting and auditing We have looked at some of the approaches that companies use to help make them more sustainable and the tools for evaluating the environmental and sustainability performance of a business/organisation. We have also seen the way that the outputs from their use are collated and presented as corporate environmental and sustainability reports. Arguably, the philosophy driving this information-gathering and reporting style has its roots in conventional financial reporting mechanisms. In the latter part of the module, we extended our view to emphasise the more recent upsurge in social/sustainability reporting - again the collection and reporting of information tends to follow the same kind of ''checklist'' approach. So far so good, we have either established or developing mechanisms for collecting, reporting on and auditing ''sustainability''. This begs the question (to me at least)…..so what?? There has to be a closing of the loop for all of these actions to give the process some true ''worth''. Businesses have to feedback the data that they obtain into their operations and also use this process to modify their culture over time. With increasing use of these ''tools'', the amount of reported data (financial, environmental and societal) will also increase, and companies will need to make some hard choices - prioritising actions and trading off, say, greater potential benefits in one area (perhaps financial) with the need to move forward in other areas. Focusing on all of the above, for the final element of assessment for this module, please submit a 8-page (max.) SUMMATIVE assessment with the following title: "The role of business in helping to make our future more sustainable - challenges and solutions "
