Choose a culture different from the one in which you were reared, but one that is represented in the community where you hope to work. Do not confine yourself simply to race/ethnicity necessarily, but think in terms of the broader definition of “culture” including the relationship between culture and religious practices. Include reading, interviewing members of that community, expert opinion, and sampling events/food/religion/music/etc. in your research. In your paper give a historical background on this culture in their native country (if there is one) and changes in the culture once in the U.S. Give examples of how certain traditions of the culture you are studying may be considered by the general population to be neglectful or abusive in child rearing. Explain how you would approach these situations as a human services worker. Take a stand on the extent to which cultural issues should be taken into account when assessing the appropriateness of parenting practices. You will need to use 3 reading references that talk about the traditional cultural practiced by the group you study. This information can be from research articles published about this cultural group, books and or book chapter. Therefore you will have to do some research to find article.
