Compare and contrast the differences in the way in which US foreign policy approached the Cold War in 1945-1968 and 1973-1993. In what ways do you think our current post - Sept. 11 approach to foreign policy reflects these legacies? 2. Discuss the pograms of Franklin D. Roosevelt''s NEW DEAL and Lyndon B. Johnson''s GREAT SOCIETY and discuss their short-term and long term effects (both positive and negative) on American society and on the role of government in that society. Bush, Jr. ?? 3: The story of modern America has been shaped by the diversity of its population, as well as by the divisions and conflicts this diversity engendered. Imagine yourself today (in 2008) as a 95 year old immigrant (male), born in Eastern Europe OR in Asia, who came to the US with your parents at the age of 4. You are writing a letter to your great grandson about the changes you have seen in the society around you. Be sure to define who you are in terms of class, religion, race, nation or origin and ethnicity. Using historical examples and evidence, consider such issues as how your status as an American resident has changed over time; how your economic, ethnic, religious and political identity or affiliations may have determined these changes; and how you think our experience as an immigrant compares to that of immigrants in 2008.
