1. Select a person of a different race/ethnicity or gender than you to interview. Your intereview can be in person or by telephone. You can interview someone that you know (the person does not have to be a stranger). 2. Carefully take notes on the interviewee’s responses to the questions below (#4). 3. Begin the interview by obtaining some background information on the person: age, education level, where they grew up, neighborhood where they live, type of work that they do, married or single, children or grandchildren, and religious affiliation. (You do not have to reveal the name of the person in yoour paper and if the person does not want to answer any of the background questions, that is ok). 4. After you have obtained the background information, ask the following questions: a. When you hear the term “racism,” what does it make you think? b. What have been your personal experiences with racism, injustice or unfair treatment? c. When you hear the term “affirmative action,” what do you think? d. What have been your personal experiences with affirmative action, positive or negative? e. When you hear the term “multi-culturalism,” what do you think? f. How will multi-culturalism beneft our society? 5. Write a paper of at least 5 pages (no more than 5) that reports on your interview and what the interviewee has answered to the questions. 6. In your conclusion, discuss whether the interviewee’s experiences are consistent with the research on racism, affirmative action, and multi-culturalism. Be sure to cite to scholarly references.
