In the Catiline Conspiracy (The War with Catiline), Sallust provides a short account of the history of Rome down to his own time (1-X111), (THEY ARE THE ONLY PARAGRAPHS THAT HAVE TO BE ANALYSED, NOT THE WHOLE ARTICLE). You need to read this account and answer the following questions Q1: How does Sallust explain the rise of Rome and the subsequent changes that occured regarding the Romans? On what sorts of factors does he place the greatest emphasis? (this question requires evidence (i.e quotes e.t.c) from sallust himself from this article to back up what is being said and also from other primary and secondary sources ), my teacher said that we have to provide a cross reference (not an anlysis of what the other historians say but that we are aware that other people were writing about it also, i.e Livy, Polybius, other sources from sallust e.t.c). My teacher also said that we have to keep in mind the context in which sallust is writing which is the period of disintergration of roman poiltics. It should also be noted that personally sallust was dilusional. My teacher said not to worry too much about cataline himself but add in that he represented the corruption of roman ideals, backed up by a quote, and finally that the last three pages before the section where we stop reading (X111) has great information. As well as the criteria above it is important that you read the text closely and use it as evidence to support your answers. The length has to be 1,500 in total so 500 words per question. please do not use internet sources (maybe one is ok) as my university does not permit them. We use footnotes as our referencing and the bibliography should consist of about 7 references beacuse there are 3 different questions and numerous historians that should be used. this is an example of our bibliography set out as i dont really know if its harvard or not.
