Read the following paragraph: Charles purchases an electric coffee pot from RRR Retailer. The coffee pot is manufactured by XYZ Company. Charles takes the coffee pot home, removes it from the box, and places it on the counter. He intends to use it for a dinner party he is having the following evening. The next morning Charles decides to try out the coffee pot to make himself coffee for breakfast so he will know how to use it properly and fix coffee before his company arrives. Charles fills the water receptacle, places the coffee in the basket, and plugs the cord into the electrical outlet. After a few minutes the pot begins to make hissing sounds and Charles returns to the counter area to see if the coffee is finished. As he reaches the counter the coffee pot explodes - sending pieces of glass and boiling water into Charles’ face and neck and onto his arms and upper body. Charles suffers third degree burns and is hospitalized for several weeks. He contacts the retailer and the manufacturer to tell them of the situation but they are not particularly sympathetic. Charles contacts an attorney to discuss his options. Write an essay of approximately 1300 words and discuss the theories under which Charles might sue the manufacturer and/or the retailer.
