For this project, you will apply the analytical and rhetorical skills you used to examine other topics and apply it to jon krakauer''s nonfiction account of the 1996 disaster on Mt. Everest. In any disaster, there are muliple parties at fault. In the case of the Everest disaster that Krakauer describes in into thin air, there are people, attitudes, human greed/consumption, and societal pressures that contribute to what happens up on the mountain. Throughout the novel, Krakauer hints and sometimes, explicitly states, how each of these contributes to what befalls the climbing expeditions. Using rhetorical appeals and devices to persuade the reader, develop an argument as to what factor you believe had the biggest role in contributing to this disaster. your thesis should be argumentative and persuasive; it should not only state your position, but also give at least two specific reasons from the text that supports your position. To start, analyze Krakauer''s subject matter-look for what he states and for what he hints about the disaster. look into the text until you discover something you believe to be true about Krakauer''s beliefs on the subject of fault. Consider his tone(attitude)toward this same subject by looking closely at his rhetorical chioices, expecially word choice, logical, emotional, and ethical appeals, figurative and convrete language, sensory details, and vivid descriptions.
