RETENTION RESEARCH There is a wide range of articles, research, training and development offerings that address the issue of employee retention as a whole and for specific industries. This wide and large volume of information has often made developing and giving advice difficult as it emphasizes different strategies or addresses different elements of employee retention. You are required to: 1. Research and identify current retention practices in general and/or within the industry of your choice (Revenue Canada) 2. Prepare a summary of your own research that identifies and recommends your top 5 retention strategies that you think are appropriate for Revenue Canada. You can make you retention strategies general to apply to all organizations. 3. BOOK REVIEW AND APPLICATION Individually you are required to choose and read one book or three/four volumes of a business journal. Sample books and journals are listed on the course site in the retention project section. Your book choice should tie into one of your top 5 retention strategies that you have identified in the section 2 above. You are required to write an application review and recommendation of the book or journal material. Application 1. What did I learn about from this book that I could leverage in a retention strategy… i.e. what will you use when in industry? What learning or understanding did it reinforce? etc HRMT 3174 S Recruitment and Selection 2. Describe the key concepts or learning’s that you took away from your reading and discuss how you would apply them in implementing or developing one or more of your top five retention strategies. m. 3. What information, knowledge, concepts or tools did you take away to apply in industry. Recommendation 1. Would you recommend this book or journal to others? Explain in detail why. And support your answers with examples and application from the book or industry application situations. Remember the review is to demonstrate your ability to analyze information and then apply it as well build an understanding of business best practices. It will demonstrate your analytical abilities and feedback style. 4. FORMAT This project can be submitted in Word or PPT format. It is your call. There is no page limit to this assignment. If you are submitting this assignment in Word format - 1.5 spaced, 12 font, 1 inch margins. Student name and number as well as book title or Journal title and volume numbers should be in the header. 5. GRADING RUBRIC Scoring Grid Excellent Achievement - All described objectives, concepts, and results were met and observed many exceeded in quality. Good Achievement – The majority of the described objectives concepts, results were met and observed and some exceeded. Satisfactory Achievement - More than 2/3’s of the described objectives oncepts, results were met a few some not meeting full quality Marginal Achievement - Some of the described objectives and behaviours were met and observed Unsatisfactory Achievement - Many of the described objectives and behaviors were not met or observed. Organizational constraints and ease of implementation effectively discussed. Supporting material (examples, study results etc) used to build argument of retention effectiveness. 2)Book/Journal Application-35% Appropriate identification of best practices, approaches, techniques, and tools from the reading. Clear supported discussion that demonstrated application to future application of one or more of your top five strategies above. 3)Recommendation-20% Clear supported discussion on why you would or wouldn’t recommend the material. Specific examples and application used to support your decision. 4)Overall Report Presentation Submission-10% Relevant information and facts effectively supported the recommendations and was cited effectively. Quality presented information in logical, interesting sequence, well supported, presentation has no misspellings or grammatical errors, assess achieved results for accuracy, thoroughness, and attention to detail.
