With the No Child Left Behind in public schools, more effort has been put into bringing all the students up to proficiency, while they neglect challenging the gifted. The gifted think differently than even very bright students. Very few teachers understand how to challenge the gifted students which means that most gifted students are bored much of their school day. Some finish their work quickly and read interesting books while they wait for the slower classmates to catch up. Even the administration will often says not to worry about the gifted because they will make it anyway. This is true in some situations and in others gifted students get bored and drop out of school before high school education. This is very sad to waste all that precious potential that the U.S. needs so that our students can be just as knowledgeable as students from Asia and India. While our state legislations and U.S. legislations are able to send their children to exclusive prep schools. This allows the rich to get richer, while even gifted students in public schools get bored and drop out are able to continue the cycle where children from poorer families remain poor. The parents'' feelings about education also has an effect on how well gifted students perform. Often gifted students from middle class families though they are bored in school have outlets for their academic gifts outside of school with computers and software. These parents are usually able and willing to buy the science kits, or to pay for music or art lessons if this happens to be their child''s passion. However, the working class parents come home tired and don''t give much encouragement. They are tired of working hard and barely being able to put food on the table. If you want to, you can make up a child that you supposedly talked to about although he tested in the gifted range, so little is being done to help this gift grow, that he has become discouraged. What should be done to help our precious resource of gifted students. They could become our future inventors, reseachers who find cures for diseases, rocket scientists, surgeon, physicians, authors, politicians, dentists, lawyers or whatever it is that the child wants to become because he has a passion to learn much more about this area. Why should we have to give out Visas to get people from other countries when we have all these gifted students in the U.S. Many of the minorities or low income families students never even realize that they are gifted and they could have a better life. What should we tell our politiicians about wasting the minds of all these gifted children right here in the United States? This paper must be done modeled by APA 5th editiion.
