Requirements of the Position Paper Goal of the Position Paper: To explore and support a position on whether gang members should be employed in a particular public or private organization. Description: This course requires the student to select a particular public or private organization to examine whether gang members should be employed or not employed in this particular organization. The student will present both sides of the debate. The student must then present a strong argument for his/her position on the issue by providing support documentation, reports, articles, opinions or any other materials. The student will present the potential affects and outcomes of employing or not employing gang members in this particular organization. The public or private organization can include but not limited to: governmental agencies to include the military, small businesses or large corporations and not-for-profit organizations, etc. Your position paper should demonstrate a comprehensive presentation of your thoughts. Demonstration of Critical Thinking Skills is imperative for the position paper. The students may exercise creativity and thinking “outside of the box” is highly encouraged for this paper. The student will structure the position paper in the below format. format: Your paper should follow APA guidelines and be a minimum of 6 pages (title page is not counted), double spaced, 1” margins, paginated, print style New Times, and print size 12 point. Each section of the paper must be labeled and failure to label each section will result in two points being deducted from the overall score. Place your paper in the dropbox. grading: Each Section has a point value described below: Required Sections of the Position Paper: Title Page – (1 point) - List the title of your position paper. Executive Summary - (3 points) - The executive summary provides the reader with an overview of the position paper. The executive summary must be at least 150 words. This overview provides a brief description of the issue and its importance. Brief description of both sides of the issue. Brief description of the student''s position on the issue. Background Section – (5 points) - This Section describes to the reader the following information: A detailed description of the organization. The current policies of the organization on the issue. Alternative Viewpoints on the Issue Section - (10 points) - This Section describes to the reader (must include both of the below sides of the issue and the student does not select a side but presents strong reasons for both sides of the issue): o Detailed reasons why gang members should be employed in the selected organization to include potential positive effects and outcomes for the organization. o Detailed reasons as to why gang members should not be employed in the selected organization to include potential positive effects and outcome for the organization. Student''s Supported Viewpoint Section - (6 points) - This Section describes to the reader: Detailed discussion of reasons for the student selecting this viewpoint on the issue (supported by reports, studies, or any other references). Make a strong argument for your position! Summary Section - (2 points) - Provides a closing to your paper. Reference Section – (3 points) - Cite at least 5 references. This information from these references should also appear in the body of the paper and cited appropriately.
