This study will address the effectiveness of remediation programs in ensuring the success of high school seniors in passing the Alabama High School Graduation Exam for the 2006-2007 school years. Dothan City Schools receive funding for this program from the state of Alabama. The purpose of High Hopes is to allow schools to develop remediation programs and to collaborate with community colleges, universities, and non-profit community-based organizations. These services are provided in three ways. Teachers from surrounding colleges work with identified students for a 4 week blitz before the exam. Students have an opportunity to participate in Consumer classes during the school year, and teachers from within the system work with students for several weeks over the summer. Remediation strategies focus on the areas of weakness and teachers prescribe an individual plan for each student. This study will identify the effectiveness of remediation in order to answer the following question. Will remediation have a positive effect on the successful completion of the Alabama High School Graduation Exam for students at Dothan High School for the 2006-2007 school year?
