Building Information Modeling (BIM) has introduced new techniques to the Construction industry. BIM enables students to be actively placed on a construction site virtually. Construction sequence, process and materials can be monitored through four-dimensional CAD models (a 3D building design with time as the 4th dimension). This Virtual Reality (VR) improves the students’ learning experiences in given Construction scheduling and planning tasks. In order to improve the learning experience of Construction Management (CM) students, a prototype immersive VR tool is built. This tool is composed of a desktop computer running BIM software, an overhead projector and a SMART Board. A case study experiment is performed in two stages to compare the learning experiences and determine the improvements in two sample student groups. This experiment aims to show that the 4D CAD modeling on SMART Boards is more effective in CM students’ schedule visualization than a desktop computer running BIM software alone. This research gives the opportunity to Construction Management program faculty to improve the students’ learning experience by using 4D CAD tools. The proposed setup is cost effective alternative for accomplishing partial simulation of immersive virtual reality display environment. PLEASE REFER TO THE ATTACHMENTS TOO
