This assignment is very much a practical exercise where you get to put into practice many of the issues discussed in the seminars. However, it is also an academic exercise requiring you to understand the theory behind the practice. Whereas a true international expansion strategy would not explicitly state the theory behind the practical suggestions, in this assignment you need to demonstrate your knowledge of franchising theory and research. Therefore, you should provide theoretical support for recommendations in your report. For instance, if you propose that the franchisor should use a joint venture as its method of international expansion, you will need to compare a joint venture model with rival models such as master franchising or direct franchising, provide support for the model from the literature, and justify why you advocate this particular model.
