writing the interdisciplinary project report. scientific reports should be written in the third person e.g. you would write “a micrometer was used to ….” and not “i used a micrometer to … ‘’. all groups must produce a unique, simple floor plan of the hospital design and this design must be included as part of your individual report and referred to in the text where appropriate. the format of the report should be as follows: title page the title page provides the name of the project, the name of your group, the date, and any other information that you are asked to provide by the lecturers. summary this section of the report summarises the whole report in one, concise paragraph of about 100-200 words. as distinguished from the introduction, the summary tells the reader what will be done and lays the groundwork. hence, you cannot write the summary section until after youve completed the report. main body of report here you should explain briefly how the input of different engineering disciplines of your group partners have been used to help finalise the hospital design. then you will write in further detail about the contribution of your chosen engineering discipline to the project. you need to organise your report under different sections and headings. conclusions draw conclusions from your project. in this section, you may also criticise the group design and make recommendations for improvement. such criticisms and recommendations, however, should focus on the design as a learning experience. 2 references some reports require references at the end. you should cite and acknowledge other work you have used in your project. use the correct forms in doing this. there will be a library session to show you how to cite and list your reference section. appendices appendices may include raw data, calculations, graphs, and other quantitative materials that were part of your project, but not reported in any of the above sections. refer to each appendix at the appropriate point in your report. for example, you may include different versions of the hospital plans your group developed before producing the final plan. there is a good module about academic writing skills available through the university web site (http://www.brad.ac.uk/lss/learnerdevelopment/toolkit.php). Interdisciplinary Engineering Project (ENG0011M) The National Health Service (NHS) has decided to build a new hospital in Bradford in order to provide high quality health care that is sensitive to the needs of the local community. Hospitals are exceptional in their structural and organisational complexity. Contributions from different engineering disciplines including civil, mechanical, medical and electrical engineers are essential to build a new hospital. The civil (including designing, construction and maintenance), mechanical (including heating, ventilation, and airconditioning), electrical and medical systems are important aspects of the physical or structural complexity of such environments. The green field area allocated for the hospital is 500m length by 400m width. The area allocated for the hospital building is 200m length by 200m width. The total number of floors is 2.
