Research process 1. Research Proposal (10 points): a paragraph where you summarize your topic and provide a preliminary thesis statement for your research. (The purpose of the research proposal is for me (professor) to approve your topic as well as your thesis statement and your argument.) 2. Bibliography/Works Cited Page (10 points): collect 10 sources on your subject. Make sure to research in the library databases as opposed to places like Yahoo or Google. Use MLA style when creating your works cited page. You (student) may want to use the UNC Writing Center citation builder to help you with the format. 3. Outline (10 points): create an outline where you organize the order of your research paper. Make sure to use MLA style for writing the formal outline. 4. Rough Draft (20 points): follow your outline to write your research paper. Make sure to incorporate and cite sources through quotes and/or paraphrases to support your argument. Review MLA manuscript format and sample MLA paper. Try to make this rough draft look as close to the final draft as you can. THE ROUGH DRAFT AND FINAL DRAFT SHOULD BE 1,500 WORDS. 5. Final Draft (50 points): This is a polished work that should be 1,500 words and follow MLA guidelines. Your paper''s format MUST look like this sample paper.
