Analyze, evaluate and critique the speaker and their presentation, applying the public speaking principles you’ve read about in the text and/or experienced in your own speeches. Introduction: Begin by telling us the name of the speaker, the location of the presentation and the occasion for the speech. Body: Your critique should evaluate both the speaker’s delivery and the organization of their content. • Delivery: What were your observations about the speaker’s voice? Their volume, pitch, rate, pauses, vocal variety, pronunciation, articulation? What did you observe regarding their physical actions? Their personal appearance? Movement? Gestures? Eye contact? Explain how the speaker’s delivery added to or detracted from the message. • Content: What was their topic? What was the purpose of the speech? What were the main points or key ideas of their presentation? What techniques did they use to get your attention or keep your interest? How did they relate the topic of their presentation to the audience? Did they motivate their audience? Was humor used? Did they support their ideas with evidence or citing sources? Were they organized? Why or why not? Conclusion: Close your critique by explaining at least two techniques of delivery and of organization used by the speaker that you might want to try in your next speech. Length Requirements: A minimum of 1-2 typed, double-spaced pages of content. A title/cover page or beginning the critique half-way down the page does not count towards the 1-2 pages of content. Use standard 12-point type and Times New Roman or Calibri font style. Adhere to standard 1-1.25 “margins.
