Guidelines for completing this assignment You will first need to identify the area in which you will carry out your health needs assessment. Most students elect to study a local geographical area in which they are placed for their clinical experience. Your session on health needs assessment will help you with doing this part of the assignment. You will need to describe the locality you have chosen. You may want to include a map of your chosen area. Describe the type of area – for instance; Inner city, urban or rural Is it a pleasant place to live in and give your reasons What facilities are there for the local population e.g. shops, schools, health clinics, transport Have a look at some simple health statistics for your chosen area such as birth and death rates and compare them with the national average – what does this tell you about the health of the people living in your chosen area. Identify 2 key factors that influence the health and wellbeing of your chosen community. For example you could choose pollution, housing, the ethnic mix of the population, unemployment, crime. However you may choose to discuss any other factors that influence health which are specific to your chosen community. Describe the role of the nurse, other health professionals and other agencies in promoting health to try and prevent illnesses caused by one of your chosen factors. Remember to include a clear introduction to your assignment and end with a short conclusion summarising the points made in your work. Reference all sources cited using the Harvard referencing system.
